AN IDEAL TIME TO ENJOY THE CITY
WINTER IN GRANADA: CHARMING PLANS
These first winter months of the year in Granada are ideal to enjoy a city different from the spring, autumn or summer months.
From La Alcubilla del Caracol we suggest you take advantage of this winter season in Granada, when the city is characterized by its tranquility, to organize a getaway in a hotel-carmen very close to the Alhambra like ours and make the most of the magic of the city of Granada while fleeing from the more typical crowds at other times of the year. Therefore, here we propose plans and give you several reasons why it is a perfect time to visit the city and its surroundings.
Pleasant weather
Although the nights are cold, during the day we usually have mild days that invite you to stroll around the city or the Alhambra enjoying the winter sun. Sitting on a terrace in the warmth of midday and enjoying a drink and a tapa, meandering through the streets of the Albaicín until you reach the Mirador de San Nicolás to see the Alhambra against the backdrop of the snow-capped Sierra Nevada mountains or strolling through the city centre are some of the most popular activities.
Visit to Sierra Nevada
Only 35 km. from the hotel is the ski resort of Sierra Nevada. A good plan for a day could be to go up to Pradollano to ski. There you will find all kinds of rental services, as well as bars, restaurants and shops. If you are not a skier, you can go up to the nearby Hoya de la Mora, where you can rent sledges, snowshoes or simply enjoy the snowy landscapes and nature.
Fewer visitors and fewer crowds
The smaller number of people in these months from January to March means that you can enjoy more peace and quiet to visit places like the Alhambra without large crowds. And it can also be less of a problem to get tickets for the most emblematic monument of the city of Granada.
FLAMENCO & GASTRONOMY
In the evening, when the temperature drops, it is the perfect time to enjoy unique experiences as a refuge from the cold. The Flamenco caves of Sacromonte are an excellent option to experience one of the most deeply rooted traditions of Andalusia in the most artistic quarter of the city. Gastronomy also becomes a great ally for the evenings. From the hotel we can recommend you different restaurants of traditional food, haute cuisine, modern restaurants or whatever you like. >
Arab Baths
One of the great peculiarities of Granada and other Andalusian cities are the Arab baths, very different from a traditional spa. The Arab style decoration, the treatments and the waters of these historic places, make them a unique experience that is well worth enjoying at least once in a lifetime. The best known are Hamman Al Ándalus, although there are also other smaller and charming ones that are well worth a visit, such as Hamman Al-Haram de Santa Paula.
Hiking route “Llano de la Perdiz”
Leaving directly from the hotel, you have a beautiful hiking route through the area of the Dehesa del Generalife, where you will walk through a beautiful natural area with views of the Alhambra and also with spectacular views of the Sierra Nevada mountains, which at this time of year are usually covered with a white mantle. In approximately 2 hours you can leave the hotel, go to Llano de la Perdinz and return. It is a very easy route to follow, and we will explain how to get there at the hotel.
